ART, MARKETS & ARCHAEOLOGY
This day tour includes the embroidery studios of Teofila Servin and the collective out in the village of Santa Cruz, where women create fantastic folk-art scenes depicting traditional life from around the Lake Patzcuaro region. We will also visit the village of Capula, where artisans are famed for their wonderful and colourful Catrina dolls. We will first visit the estate of Juan Torres, before heading to the collective to see dishes, catrina dolls and cookware. This village also has a lot of flower-pots for garden-enthusiasts.
We will head to Tzintzuntzan for a mid-afternoon lunch at the gorgeous Las Yacatas Restaurant, unless guests prefer to eat street food. In Tzintzuntzan, we have a few options that will appeal to different groups. These include visiting the small but important ancient tombs of the P'urepecha Empire, artists who create art (popotillo) from reeds, two pottery studios, the market and ex-convent of Santa Ana. Tzintzuntzan could also be visited and explored for an entire day, if all of these things are of interest.
