EXPLORE MICHOACAN BY THE DAY
We are always adding tours to this page, so if you are interested in something that isn't listed here, please contact us! We can arrange art studio tours for collectors, a Mezcal Tour for lovers of spirits, volcano tours for geology enthusiasts, and butterfly tours when it's the right season. We also work with a PHD Student from UNAM who offers bird watching tours, and can accompany you to Paricutin Volcano for insights into the local flora and fauna. If you are interested in participating in a really special fundraiser for Monarch Butterflies, join us for one of our Eco-Science tours with Research Scientist Dr. Pablo Jaramillo Lopez!
Spend the day exploring the rural back-roads of the sub-tropical plateau of Michoacan's spectacular Agave Plantations and Mezcal Distilleries. With 60 years of history, few foreigners visit this gem region. The best time to go is a few days after the full moon, as the distilleries will be busy with their operations. We cannot guarantee you will see the process, but you will certainly have the chance to sample many delicious mezcals!
We offer several tours to the UNESCO protected Butterfly Reserves. While those with limited time opt for a day trip, if you do have time to spend the night in this region, your experience will certainly be more relaxed. We offer overnight and day trips to Sierra Chincua Reserve, and can arrange a trip to Cerro Pelon if you prefer to be challenged! Please contact us if you would like information on our Fundraiser, Hope for Monarchs, led by research scientist Dr. Pablo Jaramillo!
As artists truly need production time, we only take guests on art studio tours if you are a serious collector. While you are not obligated to purchase at every stop, we are happy to discuss the mediums you're most interested in, and arrange a tour for you based on what you are seeking. Art forms in our area include various styles of pottery, copper work, embroidery, furniture and many more.
If you are an ambitious hiker and volcano enthusiast, you can sign up to climb to the top of Paricutin Volcano, plus visit the lava-filled church of San Juan Parangaricutiro. If you are less of an avid hiker, you can also opt to visit Uruapan's lush and tropical National Forest combined with a shorter visit to the church of San Juan Parangaricutiro, where you can still see Paricutin in the distance, while navigating the lava-flow in order to visit the ruins of this ancient church.
Our workshops are designed to introduce art enthusiasts to the processes employed for various mediums. Having the chance to work with an artist, in their traditional workshop, is an incredible experience. As artists are taking time out of their production time, the prices for our workshops are based on 6 guests. All classes vary in price, based on materials.
