Itinerary For March 5, 2022
9:00 AM - your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Morelia, and transport you to a rarely visited town called Acuitzeo del Canje. Arriving around 9:45 AM, we will first visit Lorena Villalobos, who creates exquisite paintings using bird feathers. She will also have work there by one of her students, Alejandrina Garcia, who has also mastered this art form.
We will depart Acuitzeo del Canje by 11:00 AM for the embroidery collective of award winning artist Teofila Servin. Arriving there at approximately 11:30 AM, you will have the chance to browse through her incredible collection, that includes tapestries, rebozos (shawls), clothing, bags, pillow cases, and more. Servin's work is very fine and detailed, so fetches a higher price than other artists in our region; however, if you are seeking something for yourself, her workmanship is collectible and will be remembered as some of the finest from this medium.
We will depart the studio around 12:15 PM and make our way along the scenic "Michoacan Riviera" to the Pueblo Magio of Tzintzuntzan by 1 PM. Here, we will have lunch at Las Yacatas Restaurant, and decide on your next move. There is an interesting convent with a beautiful museum, the ancient P'urepecha Capital of Tzintzuntzan, and an art market with woven ornaments, trinkets and pottery. Please let us know if you would like to visit the pottery studio of Manuel Morales, so we can make an appointment with him. See the photos in the gallery below!
We will depart Tzintzuntzan by 3:30, arriving in Patzcuaro at approximately 4:15, unless your group decides you would like to keep exploring.
Please Note: Times are approximate, as it depends on how long you spend in each studio. Making a purchase takes longer, naturally, so we always ask guests to remain flexible.
