AN ANCIENT CRAFT OF MICHOACAN

INTRODUCTION

Santa Clara del Cobre is famed for it's shop doors that glimmer with displays of copper wares and art pieces, thanks to a tradition of copper-making that harkens back to pre-Columbian times.  

WORKSHOP HIGHLIGHTS

Spend the day in the Perez family workshop, enjoying the nuances of village life and the opportunity to work in a traditional workshop with a local family of artists.   

 

 

WHAT TO EXPECT

Class is in Spanish with English Translation

Class starts at 10 AM, ending around 3 PM

You will craft a bracelet or a small bowl from copper.

There will be a fire going, so expect some exposure to smoke

TRANSPORTATION

 

We haven't included transportation, as many locals are able to provide their own.  We will work to organize car-pooling.  If unavailable, we can arrange return taxi transportation (cost not included).

PRICES

Cost-sharing is based on hiring a translator + minimum payment to the artist for your workshop.  Please keep in mind - the artists include your materials and are giving up production time.  We compensate the artists based on the maximum class size of 6 students, even if there is only 1.

If you speak Spanish well enough to translate art-lingo for your group, please let us know so we can reduce your price.
